Written vs. Verbal Agreements
The RTA applies whether or not there is a written agreement. However, landlords are required to offer a written tenancy agreement using the RTB's standard form (RTB-1 for residential, RTB-2 for manufactured homes). Verbal agreements are enforceable but harder to prove.
Tip: Always use the RTB-1 form. It protects you in disputes because the arbitrator knows exactly what was agreed to.
